ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio)-- On Friday night, a group advocating for property rights versus Summit Carbon Solution's request for the CO2 pipeline held a celebration in Aberdeen.
This follows the passing of HB1052 (No eminent domain for the CO2 pipeline) by the South Dakota Legislature and the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission denying Summit's request for the pipeline for the second time.
Emceeing the event was Ed Fischbach, a landowner from Spink County. The event was held at the Dakota Event Center in Aberdeen. Fischbach explained why it was important to hold it there.
Several dignitaries spoke during the event. Brown County Landowner Jared Bossly talked about how this has taken its toll emotionally on him.
District 9 Senator Joy Hohn became a first-time legislator due to her stance on the pipeline.
Two legislators were prime sponsors of HB1052. District 23 Senator Mark Lapka talked about South Dakota values.
The other sponsor was Representative Karla Lems of Canton, who took the time to look ahead. She and a group of lawmakers spent time in Washington and told the audience D.C. was aware of what was happening in South Dakota.
This issue also led to Jim Eschenbaum, a former Hand County Commissioner, becoming the new leader of the South Dakota Republican Party.
Eschenbaum talked about what he's now looking for in the 2026 elections.
